The Buddha in The Attic - Julie Otsuka I would have liked this book much more had it involved any specific individuals. I understand what she was doing, I think, trying to make this a picture of the whole experience of Japanese brides who came to America and their experiences up through the events during WWII.

Unfortunately, when there aren't any individuals, I find it very difficult to relate to the events. It's more like reading a history book, discussing the overall experiences, and it's just not as compelling that way.
